Cherry Pickin'

This weekend the NFL team was invited to Josh and Justine's place to help harvest cherries and have dinner in the garden. There is just one cherry tree but the bounty of cherries is unbelievable. They had been picking all week and we were still able to pick pounds of them! I means POUNDS!

Justine passed out buckets, bowls, and tools, and then we all scampered up the tree.

1 Bowl of probably 5 or 6 (maybe even more!)
While we were picking, Elizabeth was pitting. Elizabeth is the intern working with blood as a substituent for eggs in baking so many jokes were made about the bloody mess the cherry juice created.

As a sweet reward for our hard work, we all cooked dinner around the fire pit in the back yard. But first, I snapped a few photos of the inside of their beautiful commune.

I was sent out into the garden to collect greens for the salad.
Look at the bounty I returned with!

Kale, horseradish greens, carrots, beets, spring onions, fennel, dill...

Grilling up some din din.
Cabbage, cauliflower, mushrooms, bell peppers, leeks, spring onions, and garlic bread.
We also had a black bean and rice salad as well as the green salad I made.

And of course there was dessert, the night would not be complete without something sweet.
Sarah and I made a Peach Raspberry Galette which we warmed on the grill and Justine made a Cherry Clafoutis. We also thew some cherries onto the grill. Yum!
